Pennies recipient charities join forces to highlight the risk of ill health and poverty for carers this Carers Week

By Pennies on June 19, 2012

As a charity that works with a vast array of other charities we always love to hear to about partner charities collaborating to raise awareness and funds for important causes.

So we were delighted to hear that two of the charities that share 25% of every donation made via Pennies, Carers UK and Macmillan, are currently taking part in Carers Week.

Eight charities in total have joined forces this week to celebrate and recognise the work carried out by the nearly six million unpaid carers in the UK – that’s 10% of the population! Caring for someone, whether it’s a loved one, family member or friend, can impact on a carer’s health and well-being enormously, which is why this year’s theme is “in sickness and in health”.

Caring can be life-affirming and can strengthen and deepen relationships, but it can also cause ill health, poverty and social isolation. This campaign week aims to highlight this, focusing on how cuts to local services has a knock on effect on the health of unpaid carers and explaining that recognition by professionals can help to make a massive difference.

With hundreds of events being held across the UK throughout the week there is sure to be something going on in your area.  So why don’t you take a minute to visit the Carers Week website and see how you can get involved?

You’ll be joining the vast array of public figures and celebrities are showing their support, including Pennies supporter Fiona Philips. Fiona helped care for her Mum for ten years during a battle with Alzheimer’s.
