Examples of ways your pennies help

About six million people in the UK are caring for an elderly relative, a sick friend or a disabled family member. They do it unpaid, often without support and at great personal cost.
Among other initiatives, Carers UK are running specialist carers helpline, email and letter service currently at a loss, and donations received through Pennies will help finance these important services.
For example, even the information pack Carers UK send out to every carer following a phone call or email message costs £7.50. The general public’s support through Pennies has helped raise nearly £1,300 so far towards providing vital information for carers – this sum will pay for 150 carer’s information packs.
Carers UK fight for everyone to get the support they need when disability, illness, old age or frailty affects their family. Carers like Melanie (above) who gave up a career as an accountant to provide care to her mother who had a stroke and needs almost 24 hour care and Jim (left) who gave up work after his mother died to look after his sister, Susan, who has learning disabilities.
