Carers UK

Helping families to care

Carers UK is the leading organisation supporting the 6 million carers in the UK.

Carers provide unpaid care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner. They are undervalued, unrecognised and ignored and in every part of our society and the care that they provide saves the Nation £87 billion every year. With the aging popular there will be 9 million carers by 2037.

Most carers want to care and ensure that their loved one remains in the dignity of their own home for as long as possible. However, the sacrifice carers make can lead to ill health, poverty and social isolation.

Every year 2.3 million people become carers – that is 6,000 every day. Research carried out by Carers UK revealed that 60% of all carers miss out on benefits and support for over 3 years because they did not know that they were entitled to them. Carers help families by:

    • Providing practical help when they need it
    • Supporting carers 24/7
    • Providing local help through our branches
    • Informing carers of their right
    • Reaching working carers and
    • Raising the public profile of carers through the media
