From national retailers to community initiatives
Pennies is inclusive, which means retailers and charities of all shapes and sizes are able to join in. Just like our national partners, smaller merchants are also able to come together to raise money for local causes through Pennies.
In November 2011 we began working with CardSave, a card payment solutions provider for small and medium sized businesses, to make it easier for smaller shops to enable Pennies in their stores. We launched an initiative in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area, allowing shoppers to add a 25p donation (for the local hospice) to their card purchases.
All types of businesses are joining in, enabling customers to donate whilst they’re at the hairdressers, the butchers and in wine bars. The majority of the money goes to St Andrew’s Hospice, helping them support over 800 local residents who need specialist care.
Grimsby pennies help to care for local children and residents
Senior nurse Kelly leads a dedicated team that takes care of seriously ill children at the hospice who all work hard to support the families there.
“Everyone is so determined to ensure we provide the best service possible to patients and their families that everyone has worked additional shifts so the family is fully supported,” explains Kelly.
The money raised so far would cover one night in the Children’s Hospice, supporting the nurses to help patients and families in need of 24/7 care. And every day pennies donated in Grimsby play a part in covering the £8,219 it costs for the hospice to provide care for one day.
