The people behind Pennies

The Chief Executive, supported by our small executive team drawn from a range of backgrounds, is responsible for making Pennies happen and for the day to day management of The Pennies Foundation.

We know that charities helping people every day need money, particularly given the economic conditions right now – we think Pennies can help and this is what makes us get up in the morning and give it our best!

Alison Hutchinson – Chief Executive

Alison HutchinsonAlison runs Pennies and The Pennies Foundation with the help of the executive team.

Alison was previously Chief Executive of FTSE financial services company Kensington Group plc and has also held senior positions in Barclaycard and international technology group IBM.

Barry Corware – Head of Account Relationship

Barry has many years experience in the information industry working for organisations such as Admerex, Fair Isaac, London Bridge Software, UAPT Infolink and Eastman Kodak in many of the business sectors with which Pennies is involved. He has worked in most continents of the world and lived in the UK, USA and the Far East. His roles have included business development, marketing, sales and strategic consultancy and he has held Directorships in many of the companies for whom he was employed.

Graeme Freeman – Chief Technology Officer

Graham FreemanGraeme has over 20 years’ experience of IT. He has held a range of roles including technical, management and sales and marketing in both vendor and user organisations. Previously he was IT Director of BBC Worldwide, the commercial business of the BBC and, prior to this, he was Chief Operating Office of ABS, an online software and services business, creator of the ‘tradesimple’ brand.

Alan Kerr – Head of Operations

Alan has over 30 years experience of IT in a business context, primarily in the Financial Services industries.  Prior to joining the Pennies Foundation he held a variety of roles in IBM ranging in scope from UK to European and Global responsibility.  These included technical sales, client management, operational leadership and strategic marketing and planning.

Peter Nugent - Honorary Finance Director


Most recently Peter was the Finance Director of Puzzler Media Ltd, the UK leading puzzle magazine publisher and puzzle content provider. He joined in 1988 and was involved in all the company’s major strategic decisions, including disposals, acquisitions and mergers.  Peter was also involved in the Management Buyout in April 2002 and the secondary Management Buyout in December 2005.

Peter has also held roles in Esso Petroleum Ireland and Arthur Young Ireland (now Ernst & Young). Peter is also currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Carolyn Simons – Head of Business Development

Carolyn SimonsCarolyn has many years of experience in retail and consulting. Prior to joining The Pennies Foundation, Carolyn was Commercial Director of Homebase and previously Managing Director of Homestyle Group plc.

Ann TomsettAnn is a lawyer with over 25 years’ experience primarily in financial services. Prior to joining The Pennies Foundation, Ann was Group Legal Director of FTSE company Kensington Group plc.
